Guadua Bamboo Slats
A Strong, Durable and Ecological Solution
What is a Bamboo Slat?
A bamboo slat is a long strip that is extracted from round bamboo poles. Unlike ordinary bamboo splits, which often have irregular shapes and varying widths, our Guadua Bamboo® slats are meticulously crafted using a specially designed double-blade saw. Each bamboo slat is perfectly straight on the sides and planed on the back, guaranteeing a seamless and precise installation that will exceed your expectations.
All Guadua Bamboo® slats are treated against insect infestation, cleaned and sun dried, which gives them a beautiful uniform color. The front of our slats maintain their rustic and natural bamboo appearance. This outer layer or “skin” is also the hardest and strongest part of bamboo in terms, especially of bending stiffness.
We understand that when it comes to decorative cladding or precision work, beauty and aesthetics are of utmost importance. That's why we offer only the highest quality slats that are specifically selected for these purposes.

Our Guadua Bamboo Slats have become the go-to choice for architects, designers, and builders worldwide who prioritize natural and resilient materials. Guadua Bamboo, known for its remarkable strength and flexibility, provides a sustainable alternative to traditional construction materials, delivering a solution that is not only environmentally conscious but also aesthetically pleasing.
Unmatched Strength:
Guadua Bamboo Slats surpass the strength of traditional hardwoods while maintaining their remarkable flexibility. This impressive combination ensures structures built with Guadua Bamboo are able to withstand high loads, seismic events, and extreme weather conditions, providing long-lasting, reliable results.
Remarkable Flexibility:
In addition to its strength, Guadua Bamboo Slats excel in flexibility. Unlike rigid materials, such as steel or concrete, these bamboo strips possess a natural resilience that allows for remarkable versatility in design. Bend it, curve it, or shape it to your desires – our bamboo slats will meet your creative vision without compromising structural integrity.
Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly:
As sustainability becomes an increasingly urgent concern, bamboo slats offer a compelling solution. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet, and its cultivation results in healthier ecosystems. In addition, bamboo absorbs more carbon dioxide and produces more oxygen than most other plants, making it a remarkable contributor to combatting climate change.
Endless Applications:
Guadua Bamboo Slats cater to a wide range of applications — from structural support in buildings, bridges, and furniture to decorative wall and ceiling covers in interior design. The flexibility of these slats allows them to be transformed into diverse shapes and sizes, making them an ideal choice for any application.
Working with Bamboo Slats
Bamboo slats are often used to cover walls or ceilings. To ensure a perfect fit, it is essential to take accurate measurements of the area you wish to cover before installation. For instance, for every 1 m² you plan to cover, approximately 25 linear meters of bamboo slats will be required.
Bamboo slats can be effortlessly installed in various orientations, including horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, thereby providing limitless design possibilities, whether you prefer a minimalist and sleek aesthetic or intricate patterns.
Guadua bamboo slats can be secured with a good quality wood adhesive, screws, nails or staples. This really depends on the type of surface you want to cover. If you are going to use screws, it is best to pre-drill the bamboo strip to prevent it from splitting.
When Guadua Bamboo Slats are used outdoors, always apply a UV resistant/protective coating to avoid weathering of the bamboo slats. In direct contact with sun and rain, this coating must be reapplied annually.
Bamboo Slats vs Poles
Thin bamboo poles (Phyllostachys aurea) are very popular for ceiling or wall coverings. They have a shiny yellow appearance and often come assembled on a roll with steel wires running through the poles. Although such bamboo sticks look very nice initially, they also have several disadvantages compared to bamboo slats.
Bamboo slats have a uniform width of 4 cm, which means that you can easily extend them to any length. Bamboo sticks, on the other hand, have a conical shape and are much more difficult to connect without a visible seam.
Due to their thin walls, most Phyllostachys bamboo sticks will easily crack and split when there are sudden changes in temperature and humidity (especially under a roof). Bamboo slats, on the other hand, do not crack or split since they can freely expand and shrink.
Bamboo slats are easier to install and can even be glued or stapled against a flat or curved surface. Bamboo sticks often require a custom-made frame to install them.
Bamboo slats are cheaper than round bamboo sticks.
Uses of Bamboo Slats
Bamboo slats have emerged as a remarkable solution for countless design and construction projects, revolutionizing the way we envision sustainable materials. Renowned for their durability, flexibility, and aesthetic appeal, bamboo slats are transforming industries and making an indelible mark on architectural landscapes worldwide.
These slender strips of bamboo are incredibly versatile, finding their place in a myriad of applications. Their strength-to-weight ratio rivals that of steel, making them ideal for structural elements like beams, columns, and trusses. In interior design, bamboo slats create stunning ceilings, walls, and flooring, imbuing spaces with an organic, warm ambience. Their smooth and natural appearance add depth and character to any environment, making them a sought-after material for furniture, cabinetry, and even artistic installations or geodetic domes.
The applications of bamboo slats are virtually endless. Whether architects seek to embrace the awe-inspiring beauty of nature within their designs or strive to create durable, eco-friendly structures, bamboo slats provide a unique and aesthetically pleasing solution. By choosing bamboo slats, we not only unlock the potential for breathtaking designs but also actively contribute to a more sustainable and greener future.
