Making Bamboo Nursery Tables for a Unique Bamboo Propagation Method
In our greenhouse at Hacienda Guadua Bamboo we installed 5 bamboo nursery tables. We use these tables to grow bamboo cuttings and seedlings in a specially developed biodegradable rooting foam. The use of this organic substrate allows us to ship bamboo plants around the world as it is a 100% inert and sterile medium (which is an international requirement for the import of living plants).

This innovative way of propagating bamboo at Hacienda Guadua Bamboo benefits our national and international clients, since it greatly reduces shipping cost (compared to plants grown in flower pots of plastic bags). Yet, the foam retains water very well, which means roots won’t dry out during transport. As the plants arrive with full developed roots, they can be planted right away. The foam then slowly deteriorates into the soil.
On the 5 bamboo tables we can produce 15,000 plants every 3 months.
