Parque Natural Regional El Vínculo, Colombia
Parque Natural Regional El Vínculo is with its 80 hectares the largest ecological reserve of dry tropical forest in the Valle del Cauca department of Colombia. It was declared as a natural park in 2006 and is now a meeting place for scientists, students and ecotourism.
El Vínculo park is dedicated to the scientific research, conservation and restoration of native flora and fauna. The main reason for my visit was the small collection of 27 tropical bamboos and a beautiful Guadua Bamboo structure (which was built 20 years ago) overseeing more than 225,000 hectares of sugar cane plantations.
Apart from this spectacular panorama, El Vínculo also offers mounting trials and ecological paths where hundreds of birds, flowers, trees and endangered animals can be witnessed. The park serves for ongoing programs of environmental and cultural education for students of all levels to raise awareness about the importance of protecting nature.
El Vínculo Natural Park is open to the public from Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Guided tours are available upon reservation. For more information please visit the INCIVA website.
